Since the passing of my father, Jaime R., on January 8, 2006, I have been meaning to come forward to express my gratitude.

My father’s stay at the Alameda was one of the most difficult decision that had to be made. His 9-month stay there, to my knowledge, was comfortable and pleasurable to him and his family. At first, we were all very insecure and uncomfortable with the new environment. I was with him practically every day to ensure his surroundings were safe and that he was cared for properly. After the two months, he was transferred to the sixth floor.

As a permanent resident, things changed. Since it was like a home now, he needed to adapt and focus on new ways of living. During his most difficult times, he needed reassurance that everything would be fine. Fortunately, with the nurses from that floor, his transition went well and he was able to accept that Alameda could be his home. He became very close to the admirable nurses that were there day after day to comfort, care and be his friend.

My sincere thanks go to a specific person, who I am grateful for and who has become close and dear to our family, Aracelis B., CNA, on the 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. shift. She made a difference to my dad in every way since the very first day they met. Her patience, sympathy and above all hospitality made my dad content. My dad was very comfortable and appreciated all she did for him. Regardless if the children were present or not, she went out of her way and continued to assist him. Aracelis is a true person and we have been blessed to have her in these precious times.

I would like to give a special thanks to Barbara B., LPN, for always keeping me posted and truly being a friend. For all her patience, love and time dedicated to my dad and me. The children all appreciate this. The children will always remember all of those who made a difference in my dad’s life.

If anyone should be considered for “Employee of the Month,” I believe it should be Aracelis for her commitment to her job. I am so proud of her and will always keep her near my heart. Thank you.

Respectfully yours,
Nalda R.
